The Cincinnati Montessori Society was created to increase Montessori classrooms, to deliver support services for Montessori parents and to promote public relations activities on behalf of schools and the Montessori philosophy in general.
It is governed by a volunteer board of trustees comprised of Montessori parents, teachers, students, teacher trainers, administrators, and others interested in supporting this method of education.
The Cincinnati Montessori Society (CMS) was founded in 1963 as a non-profit organization by parents who the year before had worked to inaugurate the first Montessori preschool in this area. The first goals were to establish more Montessori classrooms and a teacher training program in Cincinnati. After these goals were met, CMS changed its focus to supporting services for teachers and schools. The organization recently broadened that focus to include support for services for Montessori parents and to promote more visible public relations activities on behalf of schools and the Montessori philosophy in general.
Services offered and maintained by the board include:
- A Directory of Local Montessori schools
- Spring Conference and Workshops
- Job Postings for Local Montessori Positions
- Public relation activities
